Not Just Another LSA

Unlike European Ultralights sold in the USA, the SportCruiser has

 • wide cockpit 46.5” at shoulders
 • adjustable rudder pedals
    to fit even 6’6” pilot.
 • useful load of 562 lbs
 • wing lockers for added storage
 •
low speed touch down 32 (mph)
 • high cruising speed of 138mph
 • 30 gallons of fuel (15 gal./side)
 •
and so much more...

Designed with longevity and simple maintenance in mind as well as easy and docile handling characteristics, Czech Aircraft Works and Sport Aircraft Works have created the best LSA in the light sport market place.   The SportCruiser was specifically designed after the LSA rule was finalized. This means that our engineers were able to take advantage of the full 1320 pound weight limit and build a proportionally designed aircraft, with respect to useful load, comfort, flexible fuel capacity, and handling characteristics that are spectacular throughout the entire power envelope. Our superior design is built to to be manufactured in specialized mass production

SportCruiser is an ideal choice for the low time Pilot or as a primary trainer in LSA flight schools. But don’t be fooled by it’s docile low speed, this is an excellent cruiser with a cruising speed of 138mph!  Your aircraft can be configured with 3 major panel layouts , choice of 2 tone paint scheme and Unique wing lockers.

Sport Aircraft Works has a long history serving the light sport industry. Our factory is the largest European manufacturer of light aircraft, not only for the USA, but for the rest of the world with more than 160 aircraft manufactured in a single year. We are determined to double this number in the next year. And we are serious.

Version III Comparison

Over the last six months we have refined the SportCruiser to be an even better top of the line LSA. Many of you have asked for clarification on these changes so we thought we would post some photos specifically to address this issue. The primary major change was the fuselage width and the carbon fiber canopy structure.

The SportCruiser was primarily designed for the US market after the LSA rule was finalized. This gave us the ability to build the largest possible LSA legal aircraft from a clean sheet of paper. Our main objective was to have a large enough cabin for even two large 220lb, 6' 6" pilots, plus have room for baggage. This was achieved with our last modification as we changed the cabin structure slightly to achieve 46.5" at the shoulder. This isn't maximum 46.5" or
outside dimension like others quote, this is width at the shoulder level! Increased leg room was achieved by small modification in the foot well area and a unique in flight adjustable rudder pedal assembly. Some customers ask why adjustable rudders and not adjustable seats. But it is clear once you see the aircraft as the seat structure is built around the forward spar.

As you can see from the photo on the left with our helpful office manager Marketa who is 5' 8", there is a tremendous amount of headroom left. So this easily accommodates a tall person with a large torso. And for the smaller pilots, the seat can be custom built with additional foam padding. And the rudder pedals can be adjusted too! So we have plenty of room for everyone. And baggage? Talking about baggage, there is more room in the SportCruiser than in most other LSA in its class. Large baggage area drops down below the seat backs and onto the turtle deck. And I always forget to mention one of the best features - our wing lockers for extra storage capacity for your cross-country cruises . These are quite large and can hold 40lbs in each wing.

Please don't fly our aircraft!
Put it to the bottom of your "to-test-fly" list. We recommend that you fly all of our competitor's aircraft first and then come visit us. You will be so impressed by the GA quality, handling characteristics and low speed maneuverability that you will not want to fly any other aircraft. We have on countless occasions had customers - educated consumers, who flew up to 9 aircraft before visiting our facility,  always comment how : "The SportCruiser is by far the best balanced and well handling aircraft out there" after finishing their evaluation of our aircraft.

This isn't by accident. Danny, Milan and the whole crew spent a tremendous amount of effort not only designing but refining the flying characteristics into a well balanced, safe flying machine. Danny says: "It's easy to design an aircraft but only a very coordinated test pilot / engineer / designer is capable of refining flying characteristics to the highest level." We worked very hard on the low end speed range coming away with an aircraft that in many cases doesn't even stall (goes into 500fpm mush), landing speed is near 26kt with full controllability even at the lowest speed. But wait, there is more! Of course it can fly slow but what about cruise? In the current configuration we are seeing up to 119kt! Quite an impressive range on 4.5 - 5 gph. Additionally we ended up with large weight & balance envelope which means the aircraft is very happy loaded in any configuration and it's very difficult to achieve aft CG.  We have designed the SportCruiser to behave closer to GA aircraft than any other LSA both in feel and flying characteristics. A good example of the overall tameness is our demonstration of a coordinated 15 degree bank turn with your feet on the floor.

So remember, don't fly the SportCruiser until you have flown them all.
