The FAA has told us they are writing a new NPRM to fix some
ambiguities and errors in the LSA rule. They
plan
to correct their error with the amphibious gear issue by
allowing retractable gear in amphibs as they
originally intended.
This is excellent news but could take months. Chip Erwin, the
director of Czech Aircraft
Works, has written a
petition to the FAA to allow LSA certification of the Mermaid
now. The FAA has accepted and puiblished this petition. They
are now asking for comments.
This is your chance to be heard where it can really count. The
comment period ENDS 24 JANUARY 2006. So
please
send you comments in ASAP. The FAA will make their decision
shortly after the comment period ends.
The FAA likes to hear things like why this is in the public
interest, why it is important to the industry, and in the
interest
of safety. Statements made with substants count the most.

lines.)
